HC Deb 10 June 1992 vol 209 c204W
27. Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make it his policy to ban the import of all shark products.

Mr. Needham

No. Sharks are not currently recognised as being endangered. If evidence were produced that any species of shark was becoming endangered, consideration could be given to controlling the trade under either the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) or the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act 1976.
