HC Deb 10 June 1992 vol 209 cc196-7W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Prime Minister what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of his Department's arrangements for consulting the Data Protection Registrar during the planning stage of any initiative involving the collection, use or disclosure of personal data: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

I have been asked to reply.

When planning any project involving information technology, the standing instructions include a specific action to consider the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1984. In any case of doubt, the Data Protection Registrar is consulted. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister is satisfied with the effectiveness of these arrangements.
