HC Deb 09 June 1992 vol 209 c88W
Ms. Janet Anderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what information he has about the international educational programme which places students from abroad in United Kingdom schools.

Mr. Forman

The Intercultural Educational Programme—IEP—is a registered charity which promotes intercultural learning through exchange programmes for students, workers, teachers, families and youth groups throughout the world. IEP is the United Kingdom national office of AFS Intercultural Programs, an American based exchange organisation which has offices throughout the world.

As part of its activities, IEP organises placements which enable 15 to 18-year-old pupils from abroad to spend a period, usually one academic year, living with a British family and attending a local school. Similar placements are also organised for United Kingdom pupils abroad.
