§ Miss WiddecombeI am pleased to tell my hon. Friend that 57 per cent. of all pensioners, and 69 per cent. of those who had recently retired, were receiving income from occupational pensions in 1988. The equivalent proportions in 1979 were 44 and 54 per cent. respectively.

§ Miss WiddecombeI am pleased to tell my hon. Friend that a total of 6 million people receive income from an occupational pension. Of these, 4.5 million are over state pension age.
