Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much was spent on advertising electoral registration in Scotland in 1989, 1990 and 1991; how much will be spent in the current year; and of this sum how much is spent on(a) television, (b) newspaper, (c) billboard and (d) other advertising.

The expenditure for 1992–93 will cover newspaper advertisements along with an associated poster display in council and other public offices, libraries etcetera.

Member is set out in the table for the latest available population estimates and electoral registrations by parliamentary constituency. No information is available centrally about the number of persons within parliamentary constituency areas who are on the community charge register.
