§ Lord StrathclydeThe duty on spirits is charged per degree of alcohol and per litre. If the alcohol content of a drink is reduced from, say, 40 per cent. to 37.5 per cent., then the duty and consequential VAT will be 41 pence less per 70c1. bottle.
