§ Mr. HeseltineI have appointed Mr. W. R. B. Wigglesworth as acting Director General of Telecommunications at the Office of Telecommunications with effect from 13 June 1992. The general election made it necessary to make an interim appointment. It has not proved possible to complete the process of appointing a long-term successor to Sir Bryan Carsberg before he moves to the Office of Fair Trading.
Mr. Wigglesworth has done an excellent job as deputy director and has carried out the duties of director in Sir Bryan's absences. I have complete confidence that he will carry out those responsibilities equally effectively until a long-term successor is found. Work on that is well in hand.
