HL Deb 03 June 1992 vol 537 c67WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the total amount of relief or grants given by them to the Canary Wharf project including the Docklands Light Railway.

Lord Strathclyde

The London Docklands Development Corporation has invested some £47 million in reclamation and infrastructure works to Canary Wharf. The developers, Olympia York, have received the benefit of rate rebates and capital allowances payable in respect of developments located in the Isle of Dogs Enterprise Zone. The value of these relating specifically to Canary Wharf has not been assessed. Public investment in the Docklands Light Railway has been made to benefit Docklands as a whole and it is not possible to quantify its value to particular sites. Olympia York made a contribution of £68 million to the construction of this line.
