HC Deb 02 June 1992 vol 208 cc464-5W
Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what information her Department has on plans or proposals for reorganising south Manchester's hospitals; what is the earliest date on which she expects any reorganisation could proceed; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

Responsibility for planning hospital services in South Manchester is a matter for the North Western regional health authority and South Manchester health authority.

It is the long term objective of South Manchester health authority to concentrate acute hospital services in South Manchester on a single site. This proposal is subject to detailed consultation and to consideration by the regional health authority.

Interim proposals to transfer maternity services from Withington hospital to Wythenshaw hospital are presently the subject of further discussions between North Western regional health authority and South Manchester health authority.
