Mr. Dobson

To ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will give the total expenditure by his Department on press and public relations in 1979–80 and in each following year up to and including 1991–92; and if he will give an estimate for 1992–93;

(2) if he will give the total expenditure by Department of Energy on press and public relations in 1979–80 and in each following year up to and including 1991–92.

Expenditure by the two Departments on press and public relations in 1991–92 was as follows:

  • Department of Trade and Industry, £2,719.000.
  • Department of Energy, £705,000.

DTI expenditure in 1992–93, covering trade, industry and energy issues, is expected to be of the order of £3,160,000. The figures include regional press officer and other support services.
