§ Mr. BaldryThe Liverpool garden festival site covers 105 acres of which 85 acres has recently been taken over by Tomorrow's Leisure, a subsidiary of Norstead Leisure Ltd, to develop a multi-leisure complex known as Pleasure Island. Officially launched on 7 May 1992, with regional selective assistance of £1 million towards the estimated project cost of £10 million and car parking provided by Merseyside development corporation, Pleasure Island is expected to create 250 new jobs.
The remaining 20 acres was designated for public open space and housing, of which 393 dwellings are now complete.
