HL Deb 02 June 1992 vol 537 cc62-3WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (i) what progress they have made with the revision of the Highway Code;
  2. (ii) whether they will publish a second draft of the revised new code following the representations made, and, if so, when; and
  3. (iii) in view of the bulk of the code, whether they are considering the suggestion that it should be broken into smaller codes.

The Earl of Caithness

The Department of Transport's consultation document on proposals for the revision of theHighway Code was published in October 1991. Responses were received from more than 200 organisations and individuals representing a wide range of road safety interests. All comments are being fully considered and a revised draft will shortly be laid before Parliament. Most respondents supported retaining the Code as a single document applicable to all road users.
