To ask the President of the Board of Trade when he expects the GATT talks to reopen.

Talks are continuing on the outstanding issues between the participants in the Uruguay round of GATT negotiations. These include both formal GATT meetings and informal contacts between the parties. Vice-President Andriessen, the Commissioner who leads for the European Community in the talks, had discussions in Washington last week with the United States Secretary of State James Baker. These made useful progress and will, we hope, contribute to bringing the Uruguay round to an early successful conclusion.
