To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many and what percentage of officers in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively and overall in his Department are members of ethnic minorities.

[holding answer 12 Mar 1992]: The Department, including its executive agencies, asks staff to complete questionnaires on their ethnic origin on a voluntary basis. As at 15 April 1992 3,237 of the 64,564 staff who responded to the questionnaire were from ethnic minorities. The breakdown of respondents, for the Department as a whole, and by grades 1⤓7 is in the table.
