HC Deb 02 June 1992 vol 208 cc482-3W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what percentage of the total work force in his Department are registered as disabled; what steps he is taking to encourage the employment of disabled people within his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Burt

As at 1 June 1991, 1.87 per cent. of the staff employed by the Department of Social Security, including its agencies, were registered as disabled. This figure excludes staff with disabilities who choose not to register and more than 50 registered disabled people employed under the sheltered placement scheme. The Department, including its agencies, is committed to implementing the civil service code of practice on the employment of people with disabilities and increasing the number of employees with disabilities.
