To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what powers he has to ensure localities neighbouring shire counties are included in the review by the Local Government Commission for consideration of the granting of unitary authority status.

Mr. Robin Squire

Under section 13 of the Local Government Act 1992, the Secretary of State may direct the commission to conduct reviews of specified areas, and he may vary his direction to the commission to include areas adjacent to those so specified.
