HC Deb 16 July 1992 vol 211 c1030W
Sir John Wheeler

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will set out the arrangements in Scotland for the retail trade to open for business on a Sunday; and what representations he has received in favour of bringing the law in Scotland in line with that of England and Wales as set out in the Shops Act 1950.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 22 June 1992]: The restrictions on Sunday trading contained in the Shops Act 1950 do not apply in Scotland, other than to hairdressers and barbers. Since the start of this year, my right hon. Friend has received two representations advocating the imposition of restrictions on Sunday trading in Scotland.
