To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage which non-departmental public bodies are sponsored by his Department; which of these are audited by the National Audit Office; which firms of private accountants audits each of the others; by what method of tendering contracts to such firms are awarded; and for what duration.

[holding answer 10 July 1992]: I refer the hon. Gentleman to the table, which lists the executive non-departmental public bodies directly funded by the Department of National Heritage and gives details of their audit certification arrangements. The method of selecting auditors, including competitive tendering, varies between institutions. Reviews of appointments may be held annually or at other periods up to five years.
