HC Deb 16 July 1992 vol 211 c974W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances mothers in prison are separated from their babies six hours after birth.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The circumstances in which a mother in prison would be separated from her baby within hours of the birth are the same as in the community. Immediate separation would take place where the local social service department had obtained a care order because the child was considered to be at risk.
