§ Mr. Quentin DaviesTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the gain to public funds if(a) all social security benefits and welfare payments and (b) all social security benefits and welfare payments other than child benefit were made inclusive in the taxable income of recipients.
§ Mr. DorrellThe estimated direct revenue yield in 1992–93 from making all social security benefits and welfare payments liable to tax is about £2 billion. Excluding child benefit and one-parent benefit would reduce the yield to about £1 billion.
