HC Deb 15 July 1992 vol 211 c805W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the number of cases of warble fly and the number of herds affected, by region, in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Soames

There were two confirmed cases of warble fly in 1992, one in Cumbria and one in north Yorkshire.

There were no confirmed cases of warble fly in 1991.

Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will outline his Ministry's guidelines on the procedure for the treatment of warble fly.

Mr. Soames

Warble fly is a notifiable disease, the presence or suspicion of which must be immediately reported to the local divisional veterinary officer.

If signs of infestation are found in any herd, it and all others within 3 km must be treated with an approved warblecide. Until treatment has been carried out, cattle movements are restricted.
