To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what discussions he has had with his United States counterpart on the use of United States extremely low frequency radio transmission systems for communicating with British submarines.

As part of normal information exchanges officials from my Department have discussed the capabilities of such a system.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence which submarines in the service of his Department are capable of receiving extremely low frequency radio signals.
