§ Mr. FraserTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what transitional provisions will be made in respect of nationals of European free trade area countries who are present in the United Kingdom and wish to remain here pending the coming into force on 1 January 1993 of the agreement on the European economic area signed on 2 May.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe agreement has yet to be ratified and it is not yet certain that it will come into effect on 1 January 1993. A decision on any necessary transitional arrangements will be taken nearer the time.
