HL Deb 15 July 1992 vol 539 cc30-1WA
Lord Renton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the results of the 1991 census of the population of the United Kingdom will he published.

Baroness Cumberlege

Counts of the population present on census night were published in the preliminary reports in July 1991. These provisional figures were obtained from summaries prepared by the local field staff.

In Great Britain, computer processed results from the 1991 census are being processed on a county-by-county (England and Wales) or region-by-region (Scotland) basis, and monitors containing summary statistics on the census topics for which answers were fully processed have been published for 11 counties and one Scottish region. Monitors for all counties and regions are expected to be published by October 1992.

Details of the publication plans are included in the Census Newsletter. The next issue, No.22, will contain a timetable for the main census outputs, including the full county and region reports. This is due to be published during July, and a copy of this newsletter, and previous newsletters on the 1991 census, will be placed in the Library.

In Northern Ireland, a summary report containing topic statistics for Northern Ireland as a whole and for local government districts is expected to be published in October.
