HL Deb 14 July 1992 vol 539 c13WA
Viscount Brentford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they have made to the Government of China about the forced abortions allegedly imposed on Tibetan women.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

In our contacts with the Chinese authorities, they have told us that forced abortion is not official policy. Nevertheless there are reports that such practices are condoned in more isolated areas. The Chinese have been made aware of concerns in the West.
