HL Deb 14 July 1992 vol 539 c15WA
Lord Skidelsky

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many regulated tenancies there now are in the United Kingdom.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Strathclyde)

The numbers of regulated tenancies can only be estimated from survey evidence. Estimates are not available for the United Kingdom as a whole, but the OPCS 1990 Private Renters Survey estimated that there were 571,000 regulated tenancies in England in mid-1990. This is the most recent figure available.
