HC Deb 14 July 1992 vol 211 c682W
Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer of 3 July,Official Report, column 748, on marriages for immigration purposes, how many of the cases in the London borough of Lewisham which were reported to the Registrar General, were passed on to the Home Office; and how many of those complaints were proven.

Mr. Sackville

Of the 21 cases reported to the registrar general, information in respect of 10 was passed to the Home Office. I understand that in two of the 10 cases notified the marriage has yet to take place. In a further six cases, the marriage was followed by an application to the Home Office for leave to remain as a foreign spouse of which two have been granted and four are the subject of ongoing inquiries. Applications to remain on the basis of marriage have yet to be received in respect of the remaining two cases.
