To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress made in draft environmental legislation inherited by the United Kingdom presidency of the European Council.

The United Kingdom assumed the presidency on 1 July. Since then the Council's environment working group has had preliminary discussions on various matters. The first meeting of the Environment Council under the United Kingdom presidency will be on 20 October.
