HC Deb 13 July 1992 vol 211 cc495-6W
Mrs. Roe

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action the Government are taking to prevent young girls being taken out of the United Kingdom to be circumcised.

Mr. Charles Wardle

A person may apply to a court for an order to prohibit the removal of a child from the country, if he has reasonable grounds to believe that the child if taken abroad would suffer harm. The police at airports and seaports maintain a list, which is also given to the immigration service, of children who are believed to be under threat of removal. Immigration officers are instructed to check this list when a child embarks alone or in the company of one parent or an adult who is not a parent, and to notify any identified subject of the list to a police officer.
