HC Deb 13 July 1992 vol 211 c434W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what details he has received from the Government of Czechoslovakia of particular ecclesiastical items stolen, and placed on the west European art market.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

At the request of my right hon. and learned Friend, the Secretary of State for National Heritage, our embassy in Prague has approached the Czechoslovak Ministry of the Interior to obtain details of stolen ecclesiastical items. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister also raised the issue with senior colleagues of President Havel during his visit to Czechoslovakia in May. The embassy subsequently followed this up with a further call on the Ministry of the Interior. The Ministry has confirmed that it is in the process of drawing up a list which should be completed shortly. This will be forwarded to the relevant authorities and art trade associations in London upon receipt.
