HC Deb 09 July 1992 vol 211 cc342-3W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will introduce legislation to require the trustee boards of occupational pension schemes to contain at least 50 per cent. employee and pensioner representatives chosen by the employees and pensioners themselves.

Miss Widecombe

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced on 8 June that he had set up an independent committee to review the framework of law and regulation within which occupational pension schemes operate under the chairmansip of Professor Goode of Oxford university. As the terms of reference include a consideration of the accountability and roles of trustees, it would be premature for the Government to consider any changes until the recommendations of the review committee have been assessed.
