§ Mr. SainsburyI attended the Industry Council meeting on 17 June. The Council reached political agreement on aid to be provided by Germany to the east German shipbuilding industry. The Council also adopted resolutions on the textiles and clothing and vehicles industries and on small and medium sized enterprises and agreed conclusions on the aircraft industry. The Commission gave presentations on industry and the environment, maritime industries, the mining industry and future financing of the European Coal and Steel Community. The Council held a first discussion on a Commission proposal to allow a derogation for the Dutch and Danish steel industries from national carbon taxes.
