§ Mr. FrenchTo ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what estimates her Department has made of the numbers of elderly people requiring health care under the national health service in the years(a) 2000, (b) 2010 and (c) 2020 respectively;
(2) what long-term estimates her Department has made (a) of the cost to the NHS and (b) expenditure in the private sector of health care for people over the age of 60 years in the years (a) 2000, (b) 2010 and (c) 2020 respectively.
§ Mr. YeoVarious studies have been undertaken in this area including some work done by the Department's economics and operational research division which will be published shortly in "The Health of Elderly People, An epidemiological overview: companion papers" a copy of which will he placed in the Library.
