HL Deb 06 July 1992 vol 538 cc64-5WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether Moscow is still the target of British ballistic missiles as indicated by Mr. Tom King on 14th October 1991 (H.C. Deb. col. 58) and if so, why.

Viscount Cranborne

Successive United Kingdom Governments have always declined to make public their nuclear targeting policy and plans.

Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the maximum number of nuclear warheads they plan to deploy on Polaris and Trident submarines at any one time and whether they will be targeted.

Viscount Cranborne

We will continue to deploy our nuclear deterrent at the minimum level required for our security needs. It has been the practice of successive governments not to make public their targeting policy and plans.
