asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will provide full particulars of all the emoluments and allowances payable annually to:

  1. (a) British Members of the European Parliament;
  2. (b) The President of the EC Commission;
  3. (c) The individual Vice-Presidents of the EC Commission;
  4. (d) The individual EC Commissioners.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The gross salaries of members of the Commission (in Belgian francs per month, with sterling equivalent) are as follows:

From these figures EC tax and pension contributions are deducted. The figures do not include family and education allowances, which differ from commissioner to commissioner, or entertainment allowance, which is payable as follows:

Members of the European Parliament are paid on the same scale as national parliamentarians, plus various allowances for attendance, travel, secretarial assistance etc.
