However, it is Government policy to encourage all cyclists to wear helmets and the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland's ongoing programme of promoting cycle training for primary school children is designed to raise the child's awareness of the potential dangers of cycling on the road and to encourage the wearing of cycle helmets.
