§ Mr. Allan StewartMy Department's current best estimate of the local impact of the closure, and associated job losses announced by British Steel on 8 January 1992, is that an increase of less than one percentage point, on a work force basis, in the Lanarkshire travel-to-work area unemployment rate could be anticipated in the medium term. This increase is additional to the impact associated with the earlier steel job loss announcements made in 1991.
