asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are able to confirm that the arms embargo against Iran remains firm.

The guidelines relating to all deliveries of defence equipment to Iran were set by the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on 29th October 1985 (Official Report, Vol. 84, col. 454). These remain strictly enforced.

Whether they have any information on the activities in London of one of Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani's brothers and former Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Minister Mohsen Rafiqdoust which may be contrary to the spirit of the embargo.

Whether they have any information on the establishment in London of an Iranian arms purchasing mission.

We have not given approval for an arms purchasing mission to be set up again in Britain by the Iranian Government.
