HL Deb 23 January 1992 vol 534 c30WA
The Earl of Shrewsbury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, bearing in mind the difficulties being experienced by sheep farmers in the United Kingdom and the financial problems being faced by the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB), they will support BWMB in financial terms to enable it to pay producers in full without further delay for the 1991 clip.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

Arrangements for guaranteeing the returns to wool producers remain in place in the form of the wool guarantee. Decisions on the mechanisms for payment to producers are a matter for the British Wool Marketing Board, which is an independent statutory body.
