§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyThe Department has issued guidance to local research ethics committees to which all proposals for research on human subjects in the national health service must be submitted for approval. Copies of the guidance are available in the Library.
On 16 January 1992 the Government published the report of the Committee on the Ethics of Gene Therapy. The Government are consulting widely on the conclusions and recommendations of the committee and will decide what steps to take once the consultation process is completed.
