§ Mr. John PattenThe Government issued updated guidance on setting up local crime prevention partnership schemes to the police, local authorities and others in 1990. Schemes such as neighbourhood watch and crime prevention panels have now reached record levels. In addition the safer cities programme was increased to 20 projects at the end of last year, and Crime Concern is involved in local crime reduction schemes in 11 areas. Under the drugs prevention initiative 20 local drugs prevention teams are being established to work closely with local communities in finding effective ways of preventing the spread of drugs misuse.
