HC Deb 21 January 1992 vol 202 c151W
Mr. Amos

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy to increase the amount of medical assistance to Bulgaria; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

The United Kingdom signed last November a health co-operation agreement with the Republic of Bulgaria. This provides for exchanges of information and experts in the field of medicine and public health. The areas of co-operation will include health service organisation and management of health economics, health promotion and disease prevention and maternal and child health.

In addition, the United Kingdom has contributed in the normal way to the cost of the EC Poland and Hungary assistance for economic restructuring programme for Bulgaria amounting to £85.7 million, a proportion of which has included help with the development of health services.
