HC Deb 20 January 1992 vol 202 c40W
Mr. Harry Barnes

To ask the Attorney-General how many cases he referred to the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland in 1991; and what were the grounds in each case.

The Attorney-General

In 1991 I referred two cases to the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland. One case was referred under section 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 on the ground that the sentences were unduly lenient. The other case was referred under section 15 of the Criminal Appeal (Northern Ireland) Act 1980 on a point of law arising under section 18(1)(b) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1989.
