Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when the Queen's award for export achievement was given to the company Mint and Boxed; and what was the value of that award to the company.

Mr. Redwood

The Queen's award was granted to the company on 21 April 1991. The award does not involve any monetary prize.

Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when he became aware of possible financial irregularities at the company Mint and Boxed; whether he has been asked to use his powers under the Companies Act 1985 to investigate that company; and whether any investigation is under way.

Mr Redwood

The possible financial irregularities were brought to the attention of my Department in July 1991. This matter is currently being investigated by the police and it would not be appropriate for me to comment further.
