§ Mr. LivingstoneTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what formal links exist between universities and other institutions of higher education and(a) the Atomic Weapons Establishment and (b) the Chemical and Biological Defence Establishment, other than the awarding of research contracts and agreements.
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleStaff from the Atomic Weapons Establishment, as from other establishments, may be appointed as careers liaison officers to a university. When an undergraduate is taking advantage of MOD-funded bursary schemes, he or she may be allocated a tutor from an establishment, including AWE, with knowledge of the discipline being pursued.
The director general of the Chemical and Biological Defence Establishment will be writing to the hon. Member about that establishment.
