§ Sir Thomas ArnoldTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the relevant primary and secondary legislation governing relations with the Bank of England.
§ Mr. MaplesPrincipal legislation governing relations between the Treasury and Bank of England includes the Bank Charter Act 1844, the Exchequer and Audit Departments Act 1866, the Currency and Bank Notes Act 1928, the Bank of England Act 1946, the Currency and Bank Notes Act 1954, the National Loans Act 1968, the Currency Act 1983 and the Banking Act 1987. The Bank of England Charter of 1946 is also of relevance.
I regret that to compile a comprehensive list of relevant legislation in all fields would involve a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources.
