§ Mr. William RossTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the water courses which contain leachate from dumps containing tarry wastes in the Londonderry area; and whether plant and animal life in such water courses appear to have been affected by such leachate by reference to the plant and animal life present upstream and downstream of the dumps.
§ Mr. NeedhamNo significant traces of leachate associated with tarry wastes have been found in water courses within catchments in the Londonderry area; nor is there any evidence of adverse effect on plant and animal life. However, studies of flora and fauna in these water courses are under way and additional monitoring is planned in 1992.
