§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyThe Nutrasweet company has submitted to this Department anecdotal complaints from consumers in the United Kingdom of adverse reactions to the artificial sweetener Aspartame on a quarterly basis since the end of 1988.
Nineteen complaints have been received. The symptoms reported by UK consumers are generally mild in nature and range from sickness and headache to depression, all of which are common in the general population.
