HC Deb 26 February 1992 vol 204 c537W
Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) whether a person who has been paid a training allowance on a European social fund-funded vocational training course provided by a voluntary organisation or local authority, who was immediately prior to entry to the training scheme receiving a disability benefit can immediately requalify for that disability benefit when he or she finishes the course; and if he will make a statement;

(2) in what circumstances a person who is receiving either severe disability allowance, invalidity benefit or income support with a disability premium, may retain his or her eligibility for that benefit if he or she participates in European social fund vocational training courses provided either by (a) voluntary organisations or local authorities or (b) training and enterprise councils/local enterprise companies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

The European social fund provides financial support to training and employment initiatives, including employment training.

A participant in employment training receives a training allowance which maintains the same level of payment as severe disablement allowance, invalidity benefit, or income support with a disability premium, in payment immediately before the start of the course, plus a £10 training premium.
