§ Mr. Eggar[holding answer 25 February 1992]: There has been a rapid growth in the number of access courses leading to higher education in recent years. Recorded student numbers show that there were 7,000 students aged 19 or over on such courses in November 1989 and 10,000 in November 1990. Data for 1991 are not yet available.
